Lo! where this silent marble weeps, /
A Friend, a Wife, a Mother sleeps; /
A heart within whose sacred cell, /
The peaceful virtues lov'd to dwell. /
(NOTE: In a small cemetery on the campus of Hamilton College at Clinton, N.Y., the following stone stands in the Davis lot: Mary / Relict of Hon. Thomas TREDWELL / of Plattsburg / died Oct 31, 1838 / Aged 94 years / )

In green wood shades, where murmuring /
breezes sigh, /
Where burning sunbeams never dare to /
peep; /
Let me erect with sorrows tearful eye, /
A tomb to worth, which all must ever weep. /
Here, as the wandering stranger listless /
strays, /
Perchance this humble stone may meet /
Perchance too, he may weep, and weeping /
gaze, /
And mourn, that worth, and virtue, e'er /
should die. /
